Frequently asked questions

Lab Grown Diamonds
What are lab grown diamonds?

Lab-grown diamonds are grown in a lab by scientists. As a result, they are chemically and physically identical to natural diamonds and are the same on the hardness scale. In comparison, mined diamonds are found in nature and take billions of years to grow, while lab-grown diamonds can be grown in just a few weeks.

Lab-grown, also known as synthetic diamonds, have the same brilliance, sparkle, and mineral properties as top-tier mined diamonds and can only be distinguished with tests using specialized equipment.

Are lab-grown diamonds real diamonds?

Yes. Lab-grown diamonds are chemically and physically identical to natural diamonds. The only difference is that they are created in a lab rather than formed underground over millions of years.

Are lab-grown diamonds as durable as natural diamonds?

Yes. Lab-grown diamonds have the same hardness (10 on the Mohs scale) as natural diamonds, making them just as durable for everyday wear.

Can lab-grown diamonds be certified like natural diamonds?

Yes. Lab-grown diamonds are graded and certified by the same gemological institutes, such as the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and the International Gemological Institute (IGI).

Is HTHP Better Than CVD?

No, not anymore. Thanks to recent technology improvements, CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) is just as reliable as HTHP (High-Pressure, High-Temperature) for making high-quality diamonds. While HTHP has been around longer and is more common, advancements in CVD have made it just as strong, brilliant, and durable.

One key difference is cost. Since HTHP is more widely used, it can sometimes be cheaper due to large-scale production. CVD is less common, so prices may vary. However, this doesn’t mean CVD diamonds are lower quality—just that the production process is different.

Both methods create excellent diamonds. The choice between HTHP and CVD comes down to personal preference and budget rather than quality or reliability.

How do I choose between a lab-grown and a natural diamond?

It depends on your priorities. If you want an eco-friendly and budget-conscious option with the same quality as natural diamonds, a lab-grown diamond is a great choice. If rarity and resale value matter more to you, a natural diamond may be preferable.

Do lab-grown diamonds come with a grading report?

Yes. Just like natural diamonds, lab-grown diamonds can come with a certification from gemological institutes such as GIA, IGI, or GCAL, detailing their cut, clarity, color, and carat weight.
